The detail
A mossy roof is not just a cosmetic problem. Moss traps moisture against the tile face, and in a hard frost that trapped water expands and takes the surface of the tile with it. Clumps break loose in heavy rain, wash into the gutter, and block the run-off — which is how you end up with water tracking down a wall instead of into a drain.
We do not blast a domestic tiled roof with a high-pressure lance. That drives water under the laps and can strip the granular finish off concrete tiles. Instead the moss is scraped back by hand from a scaffold tower or roof ladder, the gutters and valleys are cleared out, and the tiles are then treated with a biocidal softwash that kills the spores left behind.
The biocide keeps working for months after we leave. The roof carries on lightening for weeks as the dead growth weathers off, which means the finish you get on the day is not the finish you end up with — it keeps improving.

Will you damage my tiles?
We work off a tower or roof ladders and spread our weight properly rather than walking directly across the tiles. Old or brittle tiles are flagged before we start, and if we think a roof is too far gone to clean safely we will tell you rather than take the job.
Why not just jet wash it?
High pressure on a domestic tiled roof forces water under the laps and erodes the tile surface. Scrape and softwash gets a better result and does not shorten the life of the roof.
How long before the moss comes back?
With the biocide treatment you should get several years before it needs looking at again — longer on a south-facing roof, less under heavy tree cover.
